Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 630
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Grave cut
Notebook:   1109
Context:   630
Date:   2015/04/28
Description:   The context shape in plan is rectrangular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are concave. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is tapered blunt point. Truncation: A corner of a tile sticks out of the southern edge, 0.21m from the western edge. Probably related to another grave..
Notes:   The grave cut's soil composition differs from the fills: it's harder, more like clay (though the color remains the same, reddish brown with white inclusions), and contains much more stones (coarse pebbles, cobbles), about 40%. The eastern hald of the cut is defined by such stones, in the western end is a large cobble and the soild around is slightly softer - one could continue digging there, but it would be a pit inside a grave whose boundaries were clearly defined by coffin and soil differences; also not even a sign of decaying bones was present in the grave fill and that already was well below the grave structure. It is very unlikely that the pit would yield any remains related to this burial.
