Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 69
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Red fill E of threshold of church
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   69
Date:   2014/04/14
Stratum:   Inclusions: 10% total; ceramic; bone; reddish clayey soil.
Description:   The soil color is dark brownish red. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Tasos began removing the small patches of reddish fill to the E of the church threshold, adjacent to the previously excavated grave (grave 1990-41A-C, see NB 835, pp. 100-115). The deposit was failry firm, with very few inclusions: a few fragments of pottery were collected, and 1 small bag of bone. At the base of the deposit he came down on a number of riles in horizontal orientation which were left in situ as they are embedded in the dark greenish clayish soil that mark the next deposit. He thought he was coming down on some sotne, however upon further observation it is actually plaster material, perhaps the underbedding of the floor we encountered further W in the trench. This has also been left in situ.

Later Notes (25-4-14): We closed this context when we encountered the soil change marking the deposit below, and the darm brown fill encountered directly below the threshold, at the same elevation as this deposit but with a distinctly different matrix, perhaps already indicating the cut detected lower down filled by Context 83, and then more discretely the lower cut filled by Context 99.
