Title:   even harder fill along north wall of church
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   701
Date:   2015/05/07
Stratum:   inclusions: 10% pottery, bone, tile, cobbles
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Lucas sprained his ankle during excavation of this context which represents a particularly hard fill abutting 698 to the E, and underlying it. Ecavation had begun on 701 prior to finishing sieving of 698, and in the confusion of Lucas being hurt, 701 was sieved along with 698. 701 is unlikely to have contaminated 698 by much (and it is further probable that 701 is simply another layer of 698 along the N wall of the church) as not much was dug of this context before the end of the day. Although excavation of this fill was not completed, it was decided the next day to discontinue excavation in this area and focus on a smaller section of fills, to better date the area without needing to excavate the entirety of these fairly sterile layers.
