Title:   Big pit on SW of room 9
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   726
Date:   2015/05/12
Lot:   Lot 2015-004
Stratum:   35% with many fine, angular, spherical pebbles, many small, animal bones, a large amount of ash/charcoal, and a few cobbles
Description:   The soil color is very dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Cut 733 is an extremely large pit. The first lense was removed as 717. A new context, 726, was opened when the color of the soil was darker and more charcoal was included. 726 was excavated over the course of three days (11th-13th) and was only ended by an arbitrary change to a new context, 747. The soil fill remains the same, but the large size and depth of the pit necessitated the change in context. Some of the soil (from 726) from the morning of the 12th still needs to be sieved and will be sieved in the remaining days, thus the context remained "open" in that way. It is possible that the pit extends beyond Wall 720, currently its western boundary, into Room 8, but only excavation in Room 8 could confirm or reject that hypothesis. The relationship between the pit and Wall 720 is not clear with the excavation of 726 and perhaps will become clearer with the excavation of 747.

Note 1: it rained the evening/night of the 11th - the soil was kept separate and will be sieved once it is dry.
Note 2: Many workmen and women aided with this context, foremost was Angela on the sieve and Vasillis with a second wheelbarrow when he was available to help.
18 coins have been found thus far and some material still needs to be sieved. On the 14th of May, 1 more coin was found in the sieve, Coin 194. Half the dirt from the morning of the 12th remains to be sieved. On the 15th of May, all dirt was sieved with the assistance of Wesley Bennet, Kurtis Tanaka, Emilio Rodriguez-Alvarez, Angela Stamati.
Note 3: Takis found a join in the glass between Context 726 and 747 on 25/5/2015; it is very likely that there are also joins between the two contexts in the pottery.
