Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 737
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Fill in E Room 3, Between Piers
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   737
Date:   2015/05/12
Stratum:   5% inclusions. Fine Pebbles, sub-rounded spherical. Some larger stones, a few larger pieces of bone.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is well sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   (KTT) We begin taking out the "mauro" layer between the 2 piers on the E wall. This layer goes above both the redder soil to its N and the red-sandy soil to its south. The soil is still damp from rain the previous day, but is dry enough to sieve. The soil is quite soft, though this may be due to the rain.
Some of the red-sandy soil is popping up to the S.
We have come down on a very flat layer, differentiated by charcoal inclusions and flecks of white/yellow clay.
The interface between this context and the red sand in the south is a bit muddled around the S pier. Sweeping and light troweling will hopefully clarify the interface between these layers.
The charcoal inclusions would suggest that this layer below Context 737 is the same as what is uncovered in the NE corner. We will finish shovelling and see if they are, in fact, the same.
Panos thinks that the charcoal speckeled layer under 737 is the same as what surrounds the entire big pit. We will therefore take out the red sand next.
