Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 740
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   cut for child grave S of wall 20
Notebook:   1109
Context:   740
Date:   2015/05/12
Description:   The context shape in plan is irregular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is sharp. The base of the cut is flat.
Notes:   The shape of the cut is irregular: it is circular, but with a linear extension to the NE - see drawing. It should be noted that not all the edges - especially the bottom - of this cut were securely found. The S and W edges are clear, but the E edge and the bottom are diffuse. It only became obvious that I had overexcavated too deep when the burial of an adult started showing up underneath the child burial. It seems very clear that the adult burial was disturbed during the child burial (713/grave 2015-04), and so the undisturbed parts at the bottom of context 684 must logically be part of a different context and different cut. However, as the adult burial was found immediately underneath the child, it seems the current extent of the cut as excavated must be close to the extent of the original cut.
See 684 for information on the formation and contents of the cut.
