Stratum:   very small white inclusions (2%); a lot of coarse pebbles (3-7cm diameter, 30%, clustered around surface of tiles); some ceramics; few small fragments of bone; compaction mostly loose but varies
Description:   The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey sand. Structure materials: tile. Material size: same as dimensions.
Notes:   One box of bones were collected in addition to skeleton 769. Some of these bones might belong to the skeleton and should be joined in the same bone lot.
This context consists of a tile covering for a burial and the soil deposit on top and around it, removed during the removal of the tiles. Two pan tiles form a "tent", and a cover tile, propped in place by another cover tile right behind it, is placed at the head of the structure. The tiles were found cracked in a few places but mostly intact; some new breaks occurred during the removal of the tiles.
The cut of the grave was found, but had to be overexcavated because the tiles had sunk into and wedged against the sides of the cut, making them very difficult to remove.
The soil surrounding and on top of the tiles was mostly loose but cemented in places, especially close to the edges of the tiles (as said, some of this soil was probably not part of the original grave fill but rather belonged to the scarps surrounding the cut). There were many coarse pebbles.
The tiles only covered the head and chest of the skeleton, which continues east.
