Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 786
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 786
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Stony fill in N half of Room 8
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   786
Date:   2015/05/22
Lot:   Lot 2015-022
Stratum:   30% inclusions, Sub-Rounded Tabular medium pebbles. Tile and bone visible on surface and throughout context.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   (KTT) In discussion with Larkin and Panos (the Heterarchy) we are first taking out a stony fill in the N half of Room 8. This context seems to overlie a white hard layer to its south. This context is characterized by a large presence of stone, pottery, tile, and bone encrusted on the surface. The soil is, however, very silty, with only a small presence of sand.
We continue to move N along the E side of the pit dug during the 2014 season.
The removal of this context will probably take the rest of the day and will be finished tomorrow morning.
20 May, 2015
(ERA) Work resumed in the context after some storm rain yesterday. The context and the surface being revealed below appear slightly wet, not to the extent of preventing sieving but enough to show colors in a different range than yesterday.
(KTT) The workmen continue on the West side of the pit. Still a great deal of tile and bone coming out.
The soil we are revealing along the SW area of this context seems to be much darker than the soil uncovered along the E, we will need to sweep to see if we have revealed 2 different contexts under 786, or if this difference is mereley a result of differential moisture.
Panos thinks the context extends further S than we had initially thought. We are therefore going to change contexts, though this should be equivalent to 786.
We are, however, taking a second pass along the NW area of the context, as it seems to deepen to the W.
21 May, 2015
(KTT) After a slow day yesterday, we are finishing the removal of 786. Following this we will continue S in a new context.
We have revealed som alrger stones in the NW corner and along the W side of the pit dug in 2014.
Six full baskets of pottery, 2 baskets of bone, however, one is a 50 liter bucket and so should count as many more.
Sanders most of the protomaiolica and some of the other glazed ware into this lot from context 796. Similar contents big pit room 9.
