Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 809
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 809
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Rocky layer east of pit, SW corner of Room 9
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   809
Date:   2015/06/02
Stratum:   Soil is 70% inclusions, large stones (boulders - largest stone approx. 0.33m x 0.22m), cobbles, tiles, ceramics, charcoal, glass. Most of the stone are unworked, but one was roughly worked.
Description:   The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Earlier than 805, later than the surface below.
Rocky layer atop the surface (812) which is cut by pit 808. The fill of the pit, which spilled onto the surface, doesn't extend beneath the rocks, and thus should post-date it.
Coin 440 - in the dirt between stones. H 84,73; N 1080,39; E129,76
Coin 441 - in the dirt between stones. H 84,75; N1079,62; E 129,86
Coin 443 - from sieve
LN: A. Sitz, 21/6/15- The bottom of 809 reached approximately the lowest course of Wall 729. Presumably theses stones represent the foundations of Wall 729, so 809 should be cut by them.
-809 had been bordered on east by Context 792, which extended lightly over top of 809, according to plan drawn for Context 792. But, in photographs it doesn't look like the dirt "above" 809 was dug in that context (i.e. the top of 809, with stones already visible, looks exactly the same in start photo of 792 and start photo of 805/809).
