Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 862
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 862
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Fill by E face structure 850
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   862
Date:   2015/06/12
Lot:   Lot 2015-035
Stratum:   50% tabular sub-rounded coarse pebbles. Some fragments of tiles present but not on high numbers.
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   7.40: Removal of the context started from its south edge, which constitutes also part of the cut 842. Excavating towards the north, the east face of the wall is better defined. This deposit was cut by 842, 823 and the central pit excavated in previous seasons, as well as being laid against 850. Thus, the dating of its materials can be of great importance for the stratigraphic sequence of the area.
8.34: Second pass on the context. The layer being exposed is the same that the bottom on the east side of Cut 842. It is also helping to illustrate more clearly how the wall was built: rather than a foundation trench the wall is laid on a surface and then throws of soil are placed on both sides by the lower courses, acting also as a leveling fill.
9.36: Second pass of the context is finishing, revealing the layer described above more extensively in the area. The clayish surface on the NE corner of the room seems to run over this context, although the degraded state of the clay surface does not allow for a clear boundary.
10.49: Final cleaning of the boundaries is finishing; based on the relationship of the white clay level with this context and structure 850 it was decided to excavate it as a deposit.
